For those who want to see, taste and explore real rural France, or to enjoy a truly restful holiday, a stay at Maison Chambon is ideal. Set in the picture pretty hillside village of Pomie, Maison Chambon, a refurbished 19th century home is one of the most charming houses in the area.

Accessed to the side of Maison Chambon, is a fully-fitted, self-contained apartment (gite), which has a double bedroom, kitchen/dining room and bathroom. The courtyard directly outside its front door, is perfect for al fresco dining. The apartment backs onto the substantial garden (2 acres!) , which houses the latest addition to the property - a new swimming pool. The main house has just two occupants, so guests are guaranteed a lot of privacy, while enjoying the pool.The property is owned by an accomplished artist and sculptor, who also runs a gallery on-site (separate to the house). He and his wife, while not intrusive, are a very warm, welcoming and entertaining couple, who delight in giving advice on what to do, where to go, where to eat and drink, in order for their guests to reap the full benefits of their stay at Maison Chambon.The countryside around Pomie is fascinating. The majestic Dordogne river cuts a swathe through the valley beneath the village, providing the perfect amenity for visitors who enjoy fishing, canoeing or swimming. There are also some awe inspiring lookout points, where visitors have an eagle-view of the river, the vast expanse of land and the mountains beyond. If you enjoy walking, there is no shortage of wonderful walks, immediately accessed from the property and also close-by.The medieval town of Martel, just four miles away, is home to a busy market, which takes place each Wednesday and Saturday. Here, in the environs of historic and architectural gems, visitors can chose from in-season vegetables and fruit, to local cheeses, foie Gras and of a course the delectable local 'Cahors' wine. There are also colourful craft, clothing, and jewellery stalls. The cobblestone, partially enclosed square is the venue for a weekly dance during the summer months. From early in the evening until early in the morning, locals and tourists alike are entertained by the sounds of a big band and practically everyone takes to the dance floor.For those interested in ambling around scenic and historic sites, please note, there are three 'Les Plus Villages de France', located within a twenty-minute radius of Maison Chambon. These villages of Carennac, Loubressac , Martel, Colonge la rouge, Rocamadour and Autoire are a visual treat. There are a number of marvellous painted prehistoric caves and stunning chateaux in the immediate vicinity too, including Castelnau, Belcastel, Fenelon and Marqueyssac. The town of Souillac, which hosts an annual jazz festival in July, is another nearby town with interesting shops, galleries and cafes. There are a whole range of interesting day trips which can be taken, using Pomie as a base, such as the major Dordogne attractions of Sarlat la Caneda, Domme, La Roque Gageac and Beynac.
